Motor Storm Apocalypse Pre-play
PAX 2010 is in full swing and the games are being shown in abundance. Sony's offering tons of titles in its first party line up. Motor Storm, the fast paced apocalyptic racer Sony now totes as their reason to play in 3D, was one of the first games ROQ got its hands on. At first glance, the racer looks as though its mimicking a game like EA's Burnout, but in a matter of seconds, it becomes clear that Motor Storm is standing in a league of its own.
Once I got my hands on the controller, I sped off the starting line, into a world crumbling around me. Several computer controlled drivers slammed into my vehicle, the weight of my car shifted as I scraped the guard rail. Seeing my competition pass me by, I pressed on the turbo, gaining a much needed boost of speed. After catching up, I was shocked to find my vehicle on fire, followed by an explosion, and my falling behind once again. The realization struck and I was reminded that I was playing a Motor Storm game. Motor Storm has always had a realistic way of limiting a players boost by overheating and eventually blowing the engine and entire car.
The race seemed typical fair until the world around me starts taring itself apart. Gigantic set species such as buildings, crumbled as I tried to avoid getting hit by the shower of shattered glass. Pedestrians rushed across the roads, sometimes unexpectedly, and ended up rolling across my hood. Destroyed, flaming cars sat in the middle of the road, creating obstacles which I struck several times.
After a few jumps and a couple of buses flew at me I came to a fallen building and began to drive up the side. Racing to the top of the building, I looked forward to another huge jump, and before I got there the demo ended. Suddenly my sad 12th place position appeared on the screen and I breathed a sigh of relief. Relief not because the game was in any sense bad, but that the unlikely racing environment engrossed me in the action more than I could have expected. Motor Storm Apocalypse is one to watch, and if your even slightly a fan of the franchise, you'll definitely not want to pass this one up.

New Xbox 360 controller! No more D-Pad Rage! UPDATED
All is looking to be resolved with Microsoft specifically changing the design of the D-pad to one with two forms. Speaking to Xbox representative, and all around nice guy, Larry "Major Nelson" Hryb say the d-pad converts "from a plus to a disc with the twist of the wrist.". Also that the controller is made to provide "ultimate accuracy and control for both directional as well as sweeping movements."
No word on an exact release date for Europe but the new controller looks to be hitting North America on November 9th. Available only in Play and Charge kit form with a retail price of $64.99.

Ghost of Sparta Bundle
This might possibly be the most awesome PSP bundle pack to hit US shores to date. The new God of war Ghost of Sparta, launching this November, is coming to retail in a fancy entertainment pack for the PlayStation portable gaming system. The bundle includes a 2GB memory stick, a black PSP-3000 with red accented trim and buttons, the original God of War for PSP (in downloadable voucher form), of course the game itself, and my personal favorite addition, the UMD version of Kick Ass the movie. A price is not listed yet but if previous bundle releases are any indication, this may very well fall in to the $199.99 category.

Move can do camelion hands! And oh so much more
The PlayStation Blog has posted a new video for the PS Move, demonstrating its more versatile abilities. All of what is shown is what the tech is capable of, but also isn't likely to make it into consumers hands as final products. Whats show are more tech demos, than games or applications, that might not appeal to the more casual crowd Sony had been trying to capture with the introductions of their motion control device. Still, its a pretty cool way to show off what the move can do, and maybe gives some developers ideas on how to fully utilize the hardware. PlayStation Move hits retail shelves on September 19.

Mickey is indeed looking "Epic"
Epic Mickey is due out this holiday season. At it's core, it is a platformer, with a little bit of morality mixed in for good measure. You can choose to walk the good path and be deemed hero of the land, or be a little naughty and become know as the scrapper. Striking fear in those who oppose you. Each decision having its own unique opportunities and branching paths that reflect changes in the world around you.
The most captivating aspect of Epic Mickey's gameplay, is the ability to create paths with your paint brush or paint thinner. The game sticks to a simple theme of animation. It allows the player the ability to paint a bridge or path that was not previously there. Or conversely, use paint thinner to destroy enemies, as well as obstacles preventing the progression of the character. There are limits to how much of each ability can be used. Both are regulated by your standard hud meters.
Epic Mickey looks to change the way Mickey Mouse is viewed in the videogames. From what was shown at this years E3, I'd say they're on the right path, and heading towards what I expect many will a classic. What else does an historic icon as well embedded in our culture as Mickey deserve? Nothing less in my opinion.
For some gameplay footage, follow this link, you won't regret it.

Mr. Playstation Himself

Ever since I was a little kid, I admired the big three for always employing such friendly figure heads, Sony is no exception even today. Jack Tretton, president of Sony Computer Entertaiment America, is one cool dude. Having completed several interviews, as well as just finishing up the Sony presser, found time to pose with me and chat a while. This is a guy who not only takes his job very seriously, but is down to earth enough to take a picture with an independent editor and fan. Thanks Mr. Tretton.
Twisted Metal Finally On PS3

Towards the end of Sony's press conference, legendary videogame designer David Jaffe, took to the stage to show off what his company, Eat Sleep Play, has been working on for the past 2 years. That game being the often rumored Twisted Metal.
This marks the first time the series makes an appearence on the Playstation 3, and involves several online multiplayer modes as well as the standard story campaign. I for one am very excited for the release. Look for an early pre-play impression write up in the coming days.
Nintendo 3DS

The official announcement of the Nintendo 3DS is here. Full specs @ kotaku.com.
IGNs first look Booth

With 12 Screens running, it looks like IGN.com is providing an ally for the media to get their hands on Transformers War for Cybertron. Having played it, I can say it definetly caters to the series fans.
Gameplay is in the third-person perspective, and it seems all your favorite bots will make an apperance of some form. If anything stands out in this game, its the multiplayer. Very fast paced, and very competitive. Well see how the final product turns out when the game ships this summer.
E3 Coverage Begins

Just enter the entrance hall and it finally hit me, Im at on of the Industries largest Videogames conventions in the world. From the sound of lightsabers to the rumble of gun fire, E3 was in full force and ready to bring with it an amazing number of announcements.
Keep it here on ROQ for more updates as I venture in to the belly of the beast come 12p noon PST. Jon Q is out.

Gaming Publishers Take LA By Storm

Looks like EA is ready to bring it for E3 2010. To the right of the famous Broadway Bar in downtown Los Angeles, stands the Orpheum theater, where gaming is shown in full force. The countdown has begun!
The Broadway Bar Kotaku Party

I guess 2 hours early isn't early enough for gamers. Arriving to a line of about 20 people, I made my way to the Kotaku.com Pre-E3 party, and await the doors opening. These are my people, standing in line meeting other gamers, swapping E3 predictions and chatting about the local crazy people. Updates to follow!
